The first ever Nescopeck Trail Run Festival for the Hazleton Community Services for Sight formerly Hazleton Blind Association . The event will be held on June 7th at the Beautiful Nescopeck State Park and will feature a new and improved Course along the Nescopeck creek designed by local running champion aficionado Dan Nenstiel. If you are just starting to run and want something different this is just the thing for you! If you are an avid trail runner and upset that the area has little to offer in the way of trail running … this is also the thing for you! Feel free to also walk the course or bring out your little ones for the Cubs 100 yard dash ( under age 4) or the kids fun run ( ten and under).
The event will surely be a runner’s dream but the real goal of the event is to raise funds for the well deserving Community Services for Sight of Hazleton. Many are unaware that there exists a significant number of blind or visually impaired individuals in and around the greater Hazleton area that get support from this organization. Unfortunately insurance covers very little in the way of social support, transportation, and devices that improve these individuals’ activities of daily living.
One major responsibility that the Community Services for Sight under takes each year is a week long camp for children who are visually impaired or blind. This camp allows children, if only for a week, to get out and experience nature, work on crafts, enjoy one another, and have an all out blast. As you can imagine running something like this in addition to the many other services that the area’s visually disabled need can get costly and that is the primary reason for this run. We aim to raise awareness in the community on the importance of the Community Services for Sight and also raise funds to help them bring life changing care to our area!
